The Kon-Tiki
Expedition, 1947
The Kon-Tiki raft
was built in 1947; it was made by taking as
a model a copy of the wooden rafts that the
South American Indians used in ancient times.
Six people, with Thor Heyerdahl
among them, sailed in it. They departed from
the port of
El Callao, in Peru, and arrived to the Island of Raroia, in the Polynesian Islands.
